How It Works
Prediction markets work on a simple principle: each share pays out $1.00 if the outcome it represents occurs, and $0.00 if it doesn't.
Example: Binary Market
"Will Bitcoin reach $100,000 by December 2024?"
If Bitcoin hits $100k, each YES share pays $1.00. Profit: 35¢ per share (54% return).
If Bitcoin doesn't hit $100k, each NO share pays $1.00. Profit: 65¢ per share (186% return).
The market price represents the collective probability estimate. A YES price of 65¢ means traders believe there's roughly a 65% chance of the event occurring.
Trading
Buying Shares
When you buy shares, you're betting on an outcome. The amount you pay determines how many shares you receive based on the current market price.
Shares = Amount / PriceExample: $10 at 50¢ = 20 shares (worth $20 if you win)
Selling Shares
You can sell your shares at any time before market resolution. The sale price depends on current market conditions. This lets you lock in profits or cut losses.
Pro Tip
You don't have to wait for resolution! If the market price moves in your favor, you can sell your shares for a profit before the event even occurs.
